GRIT

“To have grit means you have courage and show the strength of your character. … A person with true grit has passion and perseverance. Goals are set and followed through. A person who works really hard to follow through on commitments has true grit.”

In the Bible we won’t find the word “GRIT” but the scriptures are filled with the words steadfastness and endurance which is the definition. GRIT is obtained through God’s grace with courage, perseverance, resilience and passion. With courage, perseverance, resilience and passion, the grace of God outworks in our lives.

People who have GRIT stick with things until they are finished, even and especially in the face of adversity bouncing back from failure or disappointment. They persist and don’t quit or give up when progress is slow, boring, tedious, difficult, or seems impossible. Even when things are not going our way, by faith we persist because God is right by our side if we take a minute to acknowledge that we can’t do anything on our own.

“But not only that! We even take pride in our problems, because we know that trouble produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. This hope doesn’t put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” — Romans 5:3-5

“Let this endurance complete its work so that you may be fully mature, complete, and lacking in nothing.” — James 1:4

“Those who stand firm during testing are blessed. They are tried and true. They will receive the life God has promised to those who love him as their reward.” — James 1:12

“I can endure all these things through the power of the one who gives me strength.” — Philippians 4:13

“I’ve commanded you to be brave and strong, haven’t I? Don’t be alarmed or terrified, because the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9
